The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has donated 1000 exercise books and stationery to a home at Anwiankwanta in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The home known as “Save Our Life Foster Home” is an orphanage in Anwiankwanta.
Mr. Rakaard Sarkodie the Managing Director of Save Our Life – Ghana, received the donation which included 1000 exercise books, 750 pens, 500 pencils, erasers among other stationeries.
He thanked NUGS for the kind gesture and said the donation will go a long way to help the children’s education and also called for more support from philanthropists and Non- Governmental Organisation.
In a brief history Mr. Sarkodie said, “Save Our Life Foster Home” is a home which admits a month old babies to 25 years old.
He said some of the children are currently in Senior High Schools while others are in tertiary institutions.
Speaking to the media, the General Secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students, Mr. Shedrach Mireku, said it was the students desire to support deprived pupils with some basic necessities saying quality education could be achieved through basic necessities.
The General Secretary said, the initiative was taken to mark the establishment of “NUGS Donate A Book Project” in April 2017.
The students solicited funds and books from various sources to make the donation possible.
