scholarships

Nyonkopa Company Limited, a licensed Cocoa Buying Company (LBC) has given scholarship worth GHC100,000.00 to students in cocoa growing areas.

Presenting a cheque at Sefwi Waiwso, Mr Pious Vincent Abakah, Head of Operations of Nyonkopa, said the policy dubbed “child educational support” was to assist as well as encourage beneficiary students to improve upon their academic work.

He hinted that the Company would do its best to support cocoa famers who feed the country.

Dr Kwaku Afriyie, Member of Parliament for Sefwi Waiwso, the guest speaker, said the government was committed to ensuring better and efficient techniques for cocoa farming and this was introduced through COCOBOD to serve farmers’ interest.

Nana Nicholas Cobbinah, Western North Regional Chief Farmer who received the cheque on behalf of the beneficiaries, commended the company for the scholarship, which he said would go a long way to assist the students.

He commended the government for increasing the producer price of cocoa this year despite the fall in price at the international level, and was optimistic the price would increase next year.

Mr Cobbinah further advised farmers across the country to take advantage of the free senior high school policy and send their wards to school and ask students to take their studies serious.
