A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Idemili Federal Constituency in the National Assembly (NASS)Chief Charles Chinwendu Odedo has expressed his apprehension over the widespread indiscipline, discontentment and outright crisis that was witnessed in the just concluded party primaries across parties, as a major threat to the forthcoming 2015 general elections.
Also threatening the peace of the coming elections, according to him is the lingering activities of the BOKO Haram insurgency, especially in the North Eastern Nigeria.
Odedo told journalists during his end of the year party for his constituents at Nnobi. He also used the occasion to officially open Idemili House which he christened “Idemili Centre For Compassion” which was dedicated by the Anglican Bishop on the Niger, Rt Rev Owen Nwokolo.
He also used the occasion to present account of his stewardship, titled My Report Card to the constituents.
Expressing immense joy for the appreciation by his people over his achievements so far, and his avowed commitment to their welfare, bemoaned the effects of insurgency to the nation’s economy/global view, infrastructural development and preparations for the coming 2015 elections. He fears the murderous group could undermine the election, just like it has extensively undermined the economy of the zone particularly.
The lawmaker however took consolation in the assurances of President Goodluck Jonathan to crush the group soon.
Again, Odedo expressed worries over the multiplicity of party lists, executives and candidates within the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Anambra state, which he fears could seriously undermine the collective chances of the party during in the coming election. He appealed to the national headquarters of the party to step into the matter with a dispassionate stance early enough to avoid its backlash at the 2015 elections.
He said the court, Independent National Electoral Commission and the Wadata plaza chiefs as well as the security agencies recognized the Ejike Oguebego-led exco in the state, hence it was the one that produced an authentic candidates for the election.
He highlighted that so far, he has sponsored 15 people-oriented bills and 10 motions on the floor of the NASS to make life better for his people. And plans to do more when he is re-elected in 2015.
