Constituents of Okaikwei Central in the Greater Accra Region have pledged their support for incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Patrick Yaw Boamah as he seeks re-election in the upcoming December 7 general elections.

The voters have expressed satisfaction with Boamah’s performance and are committed to retaining him as their parliamentary representative.

Okaikwei Central has traditionally been a stronghold for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In the 2020 general elections, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo secured 53.57% of the vote in the constituency, while his opponent, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), received 45.79%.

Patrick Yaw Boamah achieved a notable victory in the parliamentary race, garnering 59.62% of the votes against NDC candidate Abdul Rashid Issah, who received 40.38%.

The upcoming elections are anticipated to be competitive, particularly with the NDC’s recent selection of Sadiq Abudulai Abu as their new parliamentary candidate.

Abu, the former CEO of 3Media Networks, won the NDC primaries in 2023 with a decisive victory and has gained substantial support among the constituency’s youth.

Despite this, many Okaikwei Central residents continue to commend Boamah’s tenure.

Interviews with voters reveal that they appreciate his contributions to the constituency, highlighting his role in developing infrastructure, such as road repairs and improvements.

They also note his efforts in education, health, and sports, including constructing AstroTurf facilities to nurture local talent.

Enoch Owusu Okyere, the Assembly Member for Apenkwa Electoral Area, echoed these sentiments.

He praised the expansion of the road network, the upgrade of the Apenkwa CHPS compound, the provision of educational materials, and the installation of streetlights to enhance safety.

Okyere emphasized that a performing MP should be kept and urged constituents to support Boamah in the upcoming election.

As the election approaches, the race for Okaikwei Central is shaping up to be a closely watched contest. Boamah’s track record and Abu’s emerging challenge are setting the stage for a competitive battle on December 7.
