The Chief of Old Mangoase and Asafohene of Akuapem Larteh, Nana Osiabour Kofi Adu II, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving healthcare access for his community by organizing a free health screening event.

The initiative, held during celebrations marking his 10-year anniversary as chief, aimed to address pressing health needs and promote preventive care among residents.

“Community development depends on healthy individuals,” Nana Osiabour stated during the event. “By organizing regular health screenings, we can reduce pressure on healthcare resources while empowering people to manage their wellbeing.” The program offered checks for chronic conditions and general health assessments.

Dr. Leslie Nii Odoi, a gynecologist leading the medical team from Greater Accra Regional Hospital, advised against self-medication during an interview with Onua TV. He also warned youth about rising drug abuse cases linked to kidney failure and other severe health complications.

The chief’s initiative highlights growing efforts by traditional leaders to bridge healthcare gaps in underserved communities. Such interventions prove particularly valuable in rural areas where access to medical facilities remains limited. Nana Osiabour’s healthcare focus aligns with broader development goals, recognizing that population health directly impacts economic productivity and social stability.

As Ghana’s healthcare system continues evolving, community-led initiatives like Old Mangoase’s health screening demonstrate how local leadership can complement government efforts to achieve universal health coverage. The Easter medical outreach sets a precedent for other traditional authorities to adopt similar health-promoting activities during festive periods when community engagement peaks.
