Omisore Runs To Supreme Court


Senator Iyiola Omisore,

The Peoples? Democratic Party (PDP)?s Governorship Candidate in the August 9th, 2014 Gubernatorial Election in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has proceeded to the Supreme Court to challenge his opponent?s victory.
During the election, Omisore lost to Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

After his loss, Omisore proceeded to the tribunal but lost and proceeded to a Court of Appeal, sitting in Akure, which also re-affirmed the victory of Aregbesola.
From the appeal filled before the apex court, the complaint grounds of appeal are essentially the same with that of the Court of Appeal.

The two notices of appeal, which was signed by his counsel, Dr. Alex Iziyon (SAN), has 14 grounds and two grounds respectively.

Omisore and PDP are expected to file their briefs of argument latest on the April 24, in fulfillment of 10 days provision by the Supreme Court Rules.

It would be recalled that the tribunal in its judgement delivered on February 6, dismissed the petition for ?lacking merit?.

In its own judgement on April 4, Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State further said the tribunal clearly fell into error when it entertain the petition.

It said the tribunal should have dismissed the petition at the preliminary stage for failure of the petitioners to file pre-hearing notice within the stipulated time.
