Despite the furor surrounding her in recent weeks, Nigeria?s Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been reportedly nominated as secretary-general for the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC.

This was revealed by Abdelkarim al-Luaybi, Iraqi Oil Minister in Vienna on Tuesday, stating that the embattled minister is one of the favorites to succeed OPEC?s long-standing secretary-general, Abdullah El-Badri.

Though the elections for the post is not until December this year, Nigeria is yet to make an official statement concerning the claims.

There are also strong indications that Diezani?s nomination was not without the consent of Nigeria?s president, Goodluck Jonathan due to their strong ties.
