President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

Dear Mr. President,

Yesterday, we watched with mounting horror, a copy of Manasseh Awuni Azure’s documentary on corrupt practices in our government institutions.

We are sure you will agree with us that Azure is to be highly commended for the thoroughness of his research.
One of the people he investigated in the documentary, Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei, revealed his involvement in the sale of government contracts.

He also confirmed the participation of members of his family in this illegal and corrupt activity, via directorships in companies that they had set up.

We understand that you have asked Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei to be suspended pending further investigation by CHRAJ.
We would however like to point out that Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei has a previous history of embezzlement and misappropriation of State funds.

He was one of several staff arraigned before the Yaw Boafo Adade Commission of Enquiry in 2001. Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei was found guilty and was one of those recommended for dismissal.

Mr. President, after such an abysmal record, and given what Azure has unearthed, Adjei should have been immediately handed over to the Police, not merely suspended to continue to draw his salary and any perks due him.

He should face the rigours of the law, tried and sentenced to serve as a deterrent against corruption in Ghana.

Indeed, we are simply asking for the application of item 4 in the Code of Ethics that Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei proudly claimed to have drafted for the Public Procurement Agency (PPA) he was CEO of. Number 4 of the Code states categorically that:

“Procurement practitioners that are found to have flaunted the code of ethics will be met with serious penalties. They could even face arrest and imprisonment.”

CPPUK and our compatriots in Ghana and abroad, will be following this case very keenly.
We hope you will make good the promises you made to wage war on corruption in Ghana, as President.

Yours faithfully,
Nana Ama Amamoo Vice-Chair, for and on behalf of CPP UK
