Somali National Army (SNA) said Tuesday its forces killed 17 al-Shabab fighters and injured several others in an ongoing military operation in the Middle Shabelle region in southern Somalia.
“SNA forces killed 17 al-Shabab fighters and injured several others. Our forces recovered weapons during the ongoing military operation in the Middle Shabelle region,” SNA spokesman Ali Hashi Abdi said.
Abdi told the State television that the army made progress in liberating several key locations between Jowhar and Mahaday towns in the region and recovered weapons. He also said the army is committed to liberating all areas still under al-Shabab control in the central and southern regions and the fighting will go on until all the militants are flushed out of their bases.
The government forces have intensified operations against al-Shabab extremists in southern and central regions where the militants are still in control of strongholds in the rural areas, conducting ambushes and planting landmines. Enditem
