Alhassan Suhuyini, the Member of Parliament (MP) representing Tamale North, criticized the selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as NAPO, as the running mate for NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, asserting it would fail to bring meaningful change.
Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, Suhuyini questioned the impact of NAPO’s nomination because he perceived Dr. Bawumia as ineffective.
“If you have a man suggesting that being a driver’s mate amounts to nothing, then you wonder what the funfair is all about when it comes to choosing a driver’s mate…Judging by the Vice President’s words, it amounts to nothing. He says you are just a driver’s mate, and you don’t have any impact,” Suhuyini remarked.
The Tamale North MP stressed the persistence of the dire situation, emphasizing that regardless of who partnered with Dr. Bawumia, the country’s current dire situation would persist.
Suhuyini reiterated the inevitability of the situation, stating, “Whoever partnered Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the result was going to be what we currently have. The fact that people are finding it very difficult to make ends meet,” he stated. “People are finding it very difficult to afford basic necessities in life, nothing is going to change because NAPO has been announced as the running mate to Dr. Bawumia.”
Suhuyini’s comments reflect growing opposition sentiment ahead of the 2024 elections, as concerns over economic conditions dominate public discourse.
