The Osu Traditional Council has urgently called upon President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, to accelerate the approval of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, to prevent Ghana from incurring divine wrath.
The council’s appeal follows plans by bill proponents to protest against the Chief Justice on August 21, 2024, alleging delays in transmitting the bill for presidential assent.
During a bill sponsor visit led by Ningo-Prampram MP Samuel Nartey George, Acting President Nuumo Gbelenfo III, he emphasized the urgency of enacting the legislation.
‘If same-sex marriage were the norm, we would expect our president to marry a man. This is not the case. Therefore, I implore the president to sign the bill into law promptly to prevent Ghana from facing grave divine consequences,’ Nuumo Gbelenfo III asserted.
He reiterated the council’s unwavering stance against what they term a ‘filthy practice’ and urged swift action from the president and the Chief Justice to avoid divine displeasure.
