Tanzanian Minister for Energy Medard Kalemani said on Sunday that 136 gold processing plants in rural areas across the country have been connected to electricity.
“The connection of electricity to gold processing plants owned by artisanal miners is aimed at facilitating the miners with cheap electricity as the country was moving toward an industrialized economy,” Kalemani said shortly after inaugurating power connection to a gold processing plant in Mwabomba, a village in the northwest region of Shinyanga.
The government will ensure that artisanal miners running gold processing plants in rural areas across the country get cheap electricity, he said.
“The processing of gold using cheap electricity will also help the government to generate required revenue for funding development projects,” Kalemani said. Enditem
