About 44 Zambian trucks are marooned in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania because they do not have Global Positioning System (GPS), state media reported on Monday.
Zambia’s High Commissioner to Tanzania Benson Chali said Tanzanian authorities have come up with new regulations requiring any tanker moving oil to have GPS installed.
“The regulations in Tanzania have changed and for any tanker operator to drive on the Tanzanian roads, they have got to have GPS installed on their vehicles. When that regulation was put in place, we already had 44 Zambia oil tankers in that country and this has led them not being allowed to proceed,” he is quoted as saying by the Zambia Daily Mail.
The Zambian envoy has since called on fuel transporters with business interests in Tanzania to ensure that they installed their vehicles with GPS to ease their movement. Enditem
