Over 400 dead in latest offensive on Kobane

Syrian Kurdish enclave

Syrian Kurdish enclaveMore than 400 people have been killed in the Islamic State’s three-week offensive on the Syrian Kurdish enclave of Kobane, a monitoring group says.

Some 20 civilians have died during the onslaught, including 17 Kurds executed by the advancing jihadists, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says.

The observatory says it has also confirmed the deaths of 219 Islamic State fighters and 163 members of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).

The watchdog says the real number of casualties is likely to be double that, as the rival forces have not fully revealed their losses and many areas are inaccessible.
