Traders in Tanzania have bought at least 52,749 tonnes of cashew nuts in the current season that started on October 31, a senior official said on Sunday.
Japhet Hasunga, the Minister for Agriculture, told a news conference in the capital Dodoma that the sold nuts fetched 136.76 billion Tanzanian shillings (about 59.45 million U.S. dollars).
He said the cashew nuts were sold at auctions to 48 accredited buyers in the crop’s growing regions of Mtwara, Lindi, Coast and Tanga.
“The auctioning of cashew nuts has been going on well and we expect farmers to sell more nuts,” said Hasunga. Enditem
