Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has mandated the Ghana Education Service (GES) to probe into a case involving 18 teachers from Amansie Central who unlawfully promoted themselves.
The teachers are reported to have upgraded their positions and increased their salaries without following the official GES procedures, resulting in a significant financial loss to the state.
The issue came to light through a report from the Amansie Central Education Directorate, which revealed that these unauthorized promotions led to a total financial loss of GH¢188,000.
The district’s education director, Vincent Ben Ameyaw, confirmed that while GH¢34,731.53 has been recovered, an outstanding balance remains of GH¢152,966.54.
Ameyaw explained that the teachers conducted the promotions without official authorization, describing the process as a “backdoor affair.” He assured that efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining funds and resolve the matter.
The PAC’s directive aims to ensure accountability and adherence to regulations within the GES, addressing the misuse of promotion procedures and the financial impact on public resources.
