Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare , Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, has said that paragliding festival plays a pivotal role in domestic tourism promotion, and therefore creates opportunities for ancillary services, as selling of arts and crafts.

Mrs Ofosu-Adjare was speaking at the 2015 Okwawu Paragliding Festival at Atibie-Kwahu, which also marked the 10th anniversary of the Festival.
She said this year?s festival also coincided with the explore Ghana domestic tourism initiative, which enabled participants to further expand their experiences of knowing Kwahu and its surrounding areas.
She said 15 tandem and one solo pilots participated in this year?s event, and they were mainly from the United States of America, France, Peru, Belgium, Japan and Switzerland.
Mrs Ofosu-Adjare announced that a new Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) District Tourism Office would be inaugurated at Mpraeso, to provide technical leadership in tourism development and promotion, to ensure standards and quality control, as well as the promotion of tourism in the Kwahu area.
Mr Charles Osei-Bonsu, Acting Executive Director , GTA, said the mission of GTA is not only to promote Ghana?s tourism internationally, but more importantly, domestic tourism, for which events attractions, such as the paragliding festival, forms a significant part, especially during the Easter festivities.
He said this year?s event marked the 10th milestone which made it more exceptional in the sense that from a corporate social responsibility perspective, the GTA, in consultation with other stakeholders, would inaugurate a District Tourism Office at Mpraeso to serve as a catalyst in domestic tourism promotion in Kwahu.
Mr Osei-Bonsu said the event would come with other activities, such as excursions, mountain climbing and abseiling, among others.
He expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who helped to make the Paragliding Festival successful, and gave the assurance that the GTA would continue to work in partnership with all the various stakeholders who have proven to be loyal and supportive to its cause.
