Belgium defeated Nigeria 78-61 on Sunday here and both teams earned tickets to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris as the top two teams of Group B in the 2024 FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
The U.S., who are unbeaten in the tournament after defeating Senegal 101-39 in the last game of the group, had already secured a berth as the World Cup winners.
Antonia Delaere led Belgium with 15 points and pivot Emma Meesseman had 14 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
The U.S. also had no trouble trouncing Senegal when Rhyne Howard chipped in 25 points and Napheesa Collier added 22.
China, Japan, Australia, Canada and other strong teams have already qualified from other groups. The final list of the 12 Olympic contenders of women’s basketball will be decided after the tournament in Brazil is concluded.
