Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, known fondly as Mama G, has sounded the alarm over the health practices of her colleagues in the industry.
She attributes recent deaths among Nollywood stars to negligence, a crisis that demands immediate attention.
In an interview with Vanguard, Ozokwor shared a poignant memory of her tearful farewell to the late comic actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu. Her personal connection to the issue is evident as she emphasizes that many actors fail to prioritize their health.
“Most of my colleagues are careless. When they fall ill, instead of seeking proper medical care at a hospital, they opt for chemists or pharmacies for quick fixes,” Ozokwor lamented.
She underscored the dangers of neglecting health amidst the demanding nature of their profession.
“When you love what you do, you neglect your health.
This neglect eventually takes a toll on your body,” she cautioned, urging fellow actors to prioritize regular medical check-ups and to take breaks when necessary to ensure they are in good health to continue their work.
Ozokwor’s remarks come amid rising concerns over the frequency of deaths within the Nollywood community. She called for a shift in mindset among actors and advocated for proactive health management to safeguard longevity and well-being.
“I worry about the safety of many in our industry. I hope more people start thinking like me,” Ozokwor remarked, highlighting the need for a cultural shift towards health consciousness.
As a respected figure in Nollywood, Ozokwor’s candid advice serves as a timely reminder for actors to take proactive measures to maintain their health despite their demanding careers.
