Patrick Twumasi, middle in action for Astana, is ready to face Benfica

Ghanaian striker Patrick Twumasi has been cleared by UEFA to play for Astana FC in their Uefa Champions League clash with Benfica in 11 days, can confirm.

The 21-year-old was slapped with a six-game ban by UEFA for a violent conduct during Astana’s 4-3 triumph over Finnish side HJK Helsinki in the preliminary round.

The former Sogakope Red Bulls Academy graduate is in line for a return to the competition.

“I’ve been confirmed eligible to play against Benfica on the 25th and I’m really looking forward to the game. It will really be great to mark that with a goal,” he told

Twumasi scored 8 goals in the regular season for Astana in the Kazakhstan Premier League and will be hoping for an improved form in the Champions League.

He has also helped Astana to win the Kazakhstan Premier League and will play in next season’s Uefa Champions League.

Astana are bottom of Group C with two points and are yet to win a game in four games and have games against Benfica and Galatasaray who are also in the group with Atletico Madrid.
