The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has asked the Peoples Democratic Party to stop blackmailing the state?s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Rufus Akeju.
The Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the APC in the state, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, said in a statement issued in Osogbo that the opposition party resorted to serial blackmail of the REC because he had refused to be compromised.
Oyatomi said, ?The All Progressives Congress in Osun is telling the PDP to stop its serial blackmail of the Independent National Electoral Commission. The PDP has been saying that except the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state is replaced, they will not consider the election result credible.
?This stance is a blatant attempt by the PDP to corrupt the electoral process by arm-twisting the INEC to replace a man the PDP has found impossible to manipulate. They want the REC to be replaced with with one that will do their bidding during the August 9 governorship election.?
But the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, Mr. Bola Ajao, said that the ruling party was defending Akeju because they had something to benefit from his ?illegal stay? in the state.
He said, ?There is no way the APC will be defending Akeju the way they are doing if they are not benefiting from his illegal stay as the REC in Osun State.
?That you have appealed does not mean that the judgment has been upturned. There is no stay of execution against the judgment so what is the REC still doing in Osun State?
? It is clear that they want to use Akeju to manipulate the election but we won?t allow them to subvert the will of the majority of the people of the state who are tired of the deceit of the APC.?
