PDP Crisis Deepens

From Chuks Collins, Awka

The recently concluded congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Anambra state which produced a landslide victory for Prince Ken Emeakayi as the state chairman has received a severe knock.

wpid-Peoples-Democratic-Party-PDP.jpgThis time it was coming from the camp of the immediate past governor of the state Chief Peter Obi, the spokesman, and the former Commissioner for Information and Culture-Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike told journalists that they were not part of the whole drama. At the weekend in Awka, another faction of the party led by Comrade Tony Nwoye met and inaugurated their own parallel 27-man state executive, council executive for the 21 Councils in the state and the executives in the 326 electoral wards of the state.

The Nwoye group had vowed to rediscover the winning formulae for the party in the state with a view to recovering their previous electoral defeat in the hands of APGA.

Uzodike, who spoke to journalists at the special thanksgiving service in honour of Mr Ubaka Emmanuel Onwuanibe for his successful 4-year tenure as the pioneer Director-General of Ebonyi State Broadcasting Service, at St Luke’s Anglican Church, Uke in Idemili North LGA stated that, “…we are never part of what is going on right now. This is because we do not associate ourselves with crisis-torn body.”

He disclosed that the only condition for them to join was for all the feuding groups to come to a round table, seek peace, reconcile and spell out terms of relationship in further pursuit of general peace.

Chief Uzodike who was the Director General for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Campaign Organization which produced the incumbent Gov Willie Obiano has since dumped APGA and embraced PDP alongside his seeming godfather, Obi.

He acknowledged being aware that the Emeakayi executive made him the party’s state Secretary; but declined commenting on why he has not disclaimed the position and the group until now.

Mr Onwuanibe commended the immediate past Governor of Ebonyi state Chief Martins Elechi, the good people of the state and all his professional colleagues for supporting and making his task less cumbersome. He counseled the journalism leadership in the country to endeavor to correct the ills in the profession for it to grow and be well appreciated and respected nationwide.
