An international institution for ICT journalism, Penplusbytes, has stressed the need for online editors in Ghana to provide high quality news, critical to the survival of their online news outlet.


PenplusbytesTo this end, it is organizing a one day strategic briefing for selected online editors in Ghana on Wednesday, 4th of February, 2015 at its New Media Hub, Osu, Ako-Adjei, Accra. The programme will focus on the on trends and new developments in online news environment.


The Programmes coordinator at Penplusbytes Yaw Frempong Ampomah noted that the online editors’ strategic meeting is the first of its kind to be organized in the country and has one of its goals to enhance the capacity of participants to match up to the growing status of online Journalism in meeting the growing audience with sophisticated 24/7 news needs.
He said that in-spite of the strides by online outlets in Ghana, ?they are challenged with advent of new technologies, digital story telling trends and how to make money online.
The strategic meeting he said, has become necessary with the influx of online media in the country with most newsrooms now having an online and fully-fledged online news department.


According to Mr. Ampomah, People are increasingly accessing news on the go, via online, social media, mobile and other internet enabled devices and like every rational consumer, the choice of patronage is largely affected by how much quality there is to find on any particular online news portal.
Meanwhile some online editors who will be present at the briefing of the hope that the event will present an opportunity to interact and network with other online editors in Ghana as well as share experiences to improve online journalism in Ghana.
