The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has pleaded with president Buhari to ensure the payment of outstanding entitlements and the balance of the 42 months arrears of the 33% pension increase to pensioners.
The union in a congratulatory message to the president said non payment of the arrears has caused its aged members who have hopelessly waited for so long, untold hardship.
The statement signed by NUP president, Dr Abel Afolayan said it has confidence in the leadership of president Buhari to fix the problems of the country.
The statement reads, “the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners on behalf of the entire pensioners in Nigeria hereby congratulates the President, Muhammadu Buhari and the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on their swearing into office.
“Your emergence as President and Vice President at this crucial moment in the history of our country is a divine arrangement.? Nigeria definitely needs a pragmatic leader like you with zero tolerance for corruption, with great zeal to fix the country?s numerous problems.
As you settle down to pilot the affairs of this great country, the Nigeria Union of Pensioners on behalf of its teaming members urges the new administration to always remember its members in your kingdom in terms of paying their outstanding entitlements and the balance of the 42 months arrears of the 33% pension increase to pensioners which our members have hopelessly waited for, for so long.
“We sincerely hope your emergence will bring the best for the nation and bring to an end the suffering of the Nigerian pensioners.”
