The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), with support from OXFAM in Ghana, has donated some Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) to three health facilities to aid in their fight against the coronavirus. The PPEs donated include hand washing basins with stands (veronica buckets), disposable googles, re-usable nose masks, alcohol based-hand sanitizers, liquid soaps, COVID-19 educational materials amongst others. The health facilities that benefitted from this gesture are the Ada East Health Directorate in the Greater Accra Region, Weta Health Centre in the Ketu North District of the Volta Region and Begoro Hospital in the Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern Region.
The donation is in line with the OXFAM in Ghana COVID-19 response and influencing action which is aimed at contributing to saving lives by ensuring that poor, vulnerable and marginalized people get adequate, inclusive and safety nets and are educated during and in the aftermath of COVID-19. Presenting the items at the Fanteakwa North District Health Directorate, Programmes Officer of PFAG, Mr. Bismark Owusu Nortey, indicated that the surge in the COVID-19 cases indicated the need to enhance and continue observing the protocols to ensure the safety of everyone. He indicated that the health facilities play a crucial role and the gesture was to complement efforts by various actors in supporting such institutions. He was optimistic that the support will aid the facility in protection of their staff and the general public against the pandemic.
Receiving the items on behalf of Begoro Hospital, the Health Director at the facility, Madam Nana Aso Boateng expressed gratitude to OXFAM in Ghana for the support and to PFAG for selecting the facility. She raised concerns about the neglect of COVID-19 protocols and urged PFAG to admonish its members and other persons to continue observing them and stay safe whiles engaging in their productive activities. She lamented the lack PPEs at the facility and was grateful for the timely delivery of the items. She promised to utilize the PPEs for the benefit of staff of the facility as well as the general public.
