Mr Mbawuni Bakutoma, a Member of the Atlanta Chapter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the United States of America (USA), has presented water pump machines to seven communities to boost irrigation activities in the Bawku Municipality.

At brief ceremonies in all seven communities; Zabugu, Kutanga, Zuku, Mognori, Gentiga, Bador and Tampizua, to present the equipment, Mr Bakutoma said the gesture would enable the farmers to embark on dry season farming to boost food production in the area.

He said if farming communities in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions got the needed support, migration to southern Ghana by people from those regions, especially during the dry season, would reduce.

Mr Bakutoma, who has his eyes on the Bawku Central Parliamentary seat, said the donation was meant to complement government’s efforts at making the agricultural sector attractive, and called on the beneficiary communities to embrace the “Planting for Food and Jobs” to increase food production.

Mr Emmanuel Ayieb, a farmer, who received one of the machines on behalf of the Zabugu Community, commended Mr Bakutoma for the gesture, and said the water pump machine would help them improve on their farming activities.

He said they were subsistence farmers and appealed to government to provide the community with a dam as part of its flagship programme “One village, One Dam.”

Similarly, Mr Musah Atuug, a farmer at Gentiga, who received the machine on behalf of the Mognori Community, praised the donor for the gesture, the first of its kind in the area, which he said and would help improve farming activities there.

He appealed to government to fix the deplorable roads in the Municipality.

Mr Daniel Ayawin, a farmer from Mognori Community, used the opportunity to call on government to assist them with ready market for their farm produce and further commended Mr Bakutoma for his gesture.
