Present at the ceremony which was hosted by Happy FM, the number one sports station in Ghana, were sports personalities and administrators like Mr. Welbeck Abbrah Appiah, former Chairman of the Premier League Board, Frank Nelson, Board Member of Hearts of Oak, Isaac Tetteh, Chairman of Pure Joy FC. Also present were Asamoah Gyan, Emmanuel Agyeman Badu, Baffour Gyan, Die Hard Supporters Union and several other sports enthusiasts.
The Ghana Sports Fans Awards which is one of the prestigious award ceremonies in the country seeks to recognise individuals who have highly distinguished themselves in their respective sporting fields during the year. The uniqueness of this event lies in the fact that sports fans are given the opportunity to select their favourite sports personalities.
In his opening address, Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of Global Media Alliance Broadcast Company, the mother company of Happy FM, said, “As the number one sports station in Ghana, this is just one of the ways through which we appreciate the numerous sports personalities who have helped place the country on the international scene’’ adding that, ‘’we are very excited about this event and we cannot wait to see who emerges winners of the night”. Mr. Akwasi Agyeman continued that the event has truly grown over the past three years and today’s event is going to be another unique experience for the sports industry.
The high point of the night was the presentation of the coveted Sports Personality of the Year which was won by the captain of the Black Stars, AsamoahGyan. Another major highlight was the confermment of a posthumous award on the late Nana C.K Gyamfi, one of the astute sports personalities Ghana has ever had.
