Physically challenged urged to utilize 2% common fund effectively

The Kwahu West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Yaw Owusu-Addo, has encouraged the leadership of associations formed by the physically challenged persons to invest the two-per cent common fund allocation in lucrative businesses.

They should put the money into economic ventures that would bring in more returns and help to better the lives of their members.

He cited sachet water production, construction of boreholes and agriculture as areas they could consider going into.

Mr. Owusu-Addo was speaking at a public forum held to discuss the Medium Term Development Plan for the municipality at Nkawkaw.

The goal was to collate the views of the people – provide the opportunity for everybody to make inputs.

The MCE spoke of plans to replace old buildings at the centre of the Nkawkaw town with modern structures to give the municipal capital, deserving facelift.

The assembly would also ensure that every household had a toilet to stop open defecation in the municipality.

Touching on agriculture development, Mr. Owusu-Addo said more storage facilities were going to be built to help reduce post-harvest losses.

He added that the assembly was eager to assist provide farmers with access to credit to expand and properly maintain their farms to boost production levels and returns.

The other projects on their priority list include the construction of a trauma centre to provide efficient care for road crash victims, promotion of information and communication technology (ICT) learning through the supply of computers to community ICT centres.

Added to these is the expansion of schools infrastructure and improvement of roads.
