The Pinasol Foundation, a community-based orphans and child centered organization in the Sekyere East District, has held a New Year party for more than 400 orphans and needy children at Effiduase.
The children, who were drawn from the Dadease, Bouya, Asokore and Effiduase communities, were given special treats and participated in singing, dancing and Bible memory verses recitals.
Reverend Solomon Asiamah Okyere, the Executive Director of the Foundation, said the event was held under its ‘‘Feed the Orphans and the Needy’’ project.
He said the annual project, which has ran for the past five years, is aimed at giving the orphans and needy children who could not afford a square meal, especially during the Christmas season, the opportunity to dine and be happy.
He said the initiative was also targeted at giving the orphans and destitute children less than 18 years a sense of belonging in society while imbibing in them the word of God to guide them as they progressed into adulthood.
Rev Okyere urged families, relatives, community members and others not to neglect their responsibilities to care for the wellbeing and development of orphans and needy children in the communities.
They should strengthen efforts at protecting and preventing children from abuses such as illicit trafficking, child labour, early child marriages and others.
‘‘When we support the poor and the needy in our societies, it opens the doors of blessings for our communities as indicated in the Bible’’ he said.
The Foundation also visited the male ward of the Effiduase Government Hospital and presented food items to the inmates as well as health officials of the facility.
