PKK Militants Attack in Eastern Turkey Kills 1 Soldier

One soldier was killed and three police officers were injured during clashes with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in Eastern Turkish province of Tunceli on Monday morning,Dogan News Agency reported.

The clashes occurred at 4:50 (0150 GMT) early Monday Morning, when PKK militants attacked Turkish security forces in the town of Nazimiye.

Initial information revealed that 1 soldier was killed and 3 police officers were injured during the clashes. The injured police officers were sent to local hospital by helicopter. Two helicopters with more reinforcements were dispatched to chase the PKK militants.

Over 600 members of Turkish security forces and thousands of PKK members have been killed in confrontations inside Turkey and in northern Iraq since July 2015, and Turkish forces have killed over 7,000 PKK militants, according to local media.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union and Turkey, but it has not been designated as a terrorist organization by the UN.
