At the Accra Sports Stadium, the PM Sports Foundation recently conducted a one-week “EmpowHER Girls Camp” for selected students from Mamprobi, Accra, Accra.
The camp, held from July 29 to August 2, aimed to empower young girls through education and sports.
Peter Mensah, CEO of PM Sports Foundation, reported that this year’s camp reached approximately 4,800 girls, nearing their target of 5,000. The program involved around 30 schools, each selecting students from classes two and three.
The camp’s schedule included diverse activities. On the first day, participants attended a workshop focused on hygiene.
The second day centred on motivation and sports development. On the third day, a workshop on climate change, led by advocate Cedric Dzelu, aimed to foster environmental consciousness among the girls.
Day four featured an Information Technology workshop, followed by a tennis clinic, during which the basics of the sport were taught.
Volunteers from Paddington Sports Club in the UK, numbering 11 this year compared to just two last year, assisted in the tennis instruction.
“We’ve been fortunate to have 11 volunteers from the UK this year, and we hope to expand that number to at least 30 next year,” Mensah said.
He expressed satisfaction with the girls’ confidence and development, noting the camp’s broader goal of producing sports champions while enhancing the participants’ overall life skills.
The PM Sports Foundation, established in 2017, focuses on enriching the lives of children through sports and social impact programs, aiming to provide opportunities and foster personal growth.
