Five people have been confirmed dead following an attack in Nigeria’s central state of Plateau, a police spokesman said on Monday.

Three people were wounded in the late Sunday attack by suspected gunmen in Barkin Ladi area of the state, said state police spokesman Terna Tyopev.

Police have launched an investigation to apprehend the suspects, Tyopev said.

Plateau state is situated in Nigeria’s middle belt where the Muslim-dominated north and the Christian-majority south meet.

The state has witnessed some bomb blasts and constant rifts between Berom and Fulani herdsmen, with many, especially women and children, murdered in cold blood.

On March 12, some 25 people were killed and several houses razed in an attack in another area of the state. Enditem
