THE DODOWA District Police Headquarters has declared war on land guards who have been terrorising property owners and residents in the Kpone-Katamanso District and its surrounding communities.
The police have vowed to make the district, a ?no go? area for all persons who are operating as land guards within the region, and so far, 27 people have been arrested for indulging in land guard activities in the district. Three pump action guns, two single-barrel guns and several used and unused cartridges have also been retrieved from them.
Speaking with DAILY GUIDE, Superintendent Kwesi Ofori, Commander in-charge of the Dodowa District Police Headquarters, said his outfit had intensified its special operations in areas such as Appolonia, Asebi, Doryumu, Gbetsile, among others, to deal with the situation.
He mentioned that so far, 21 suspects have been apprehended and arraigned before court for destroying people?s properties and for indiscriminate shooting.
The Dodowa police boss appealed to the chiefs and opinion leaders in the community to ?advise the land guards who operate within your communities to halt their activities. Please, do not wait till they are arrested before you come to plead on their behalf.
?We want to fight this menace to make the district safe for developers and other people and police is calling for public support in this direction.
To beef up security in the area, Superintendent Ofori explained that effective patrol measures have been put in place to monitor the activities of criminals in the community.
He took the opportunity to advise all land owners to renounce using violence to protect their lands.
