The Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in the Eastern Region is currently investigating a tragic accident that claimed the lives of eight individuals on the Akroso to Asamankese road over the weekend.
The incident occurred on Sunday, November 12, involving a white Toyota Hiace with registration number GM 3150-13 and a Pontiac Vibe with registration number GG 3528-14.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the Pontiac Vibe, traveling in the Achiase direction from Asamankese, lost control of the vehicle after a tire burst on a section of the road between Asamankese and Akroso. This led to a head-on collision with the Toyota Hiace, which was carrying 15 passengers.
Prompt response from police personnel and other rescue operators, along with assistance from residents, facilitated the transportation of the injured to the Asamankese government hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Currently, efforts are ongoing to reach out to the families of the deceased, urging them to come and identify the bodies of their lost loved ones.
