A recent poll conducted by Global Info Analytics focusing on constituencies in the Bono Region suggests that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could face significant losses in the upcoming December 7 parliamentary elections.
According to the report’s Executive Summary, apathy among NPP members is a critical factor contributing to potential electoral defeats across four constituencies: Berekum East, Berekum West, Sunyani East, and Sunyani West.
In Berekum East, the poll indicates that Simon Kyeremeh of the NDC leads with 53% support, while the incumbent MP, Hon. Nelson Kyeremeh of the NPP, trails at 38%. The survey reveals a substantial shift in voter allegiance, with 35% of Nelson Kyeremeh’s 2020 supporters now favouring Simon Kyeremeh. Only 51% of Nelson Kyeremeh’s previous voters intend to support him again, while 7% remain undecided.
Similarly, in Berekum West, incumbent MP Hon. Kweku Agyamang Boateng faces a tough challenge from Dickson Kyere-Duah of the NDC, trailing by three percentage points (28% vs. 31%). The poll highlights a significant indecision among voters, with 34% undecided. Notably, 11% of Hon. Agyamang Boateng’s previous supporters intend to switch their votes to Kyere-Duah, reflecting a lower retention rate among his 2020 voters.
In Sunyani East, independent candidate Ransford Antwi emerges as a frontrunner with 38% support, followed by Seid Mubarak of the NDC at 27% and incumbent MP Hon. Kwesi Ameyaw Cheremeh at 13%. The poll underscores a challenging scenario for Hon. Cheremeh, with 14% of his previous voters opting for Seid Mubarak and 45% supporting Ransford Antwi. Only 14% of Hon. Cheremeh’s previous supporters plan to vote for him again, while 22% remain undecided.
Contrarily, Minister of Employment, Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah, faces a potential loss in Sunyani West, trailing behind Millicent Yeboah Amankwaa of the NDC by a significant margin (25% vs 47%). The poll suggests a notable shift in voter sentiment, with 34% of Hon. Baffour Awuah’s previous supporters now backing Millicent Amankwaa. Moreover, only 34% of his 2020 voters intend to support him again, while 24% remain undecided.
The analysis of the poll results indicates a challenging electoral landscape for the NPP in the Bono Region. Potential losses in all four constituencies due to wavering voter loyalty and substantial undecided voters underscore the urgency of strategic campaigning and voter engagement efforts in the lead-up to the parliamentary elections.
Global Info Analytics has noted that the findings reflect current sentiments and may influence upcoming political strategies as parties prepare for the December elections.
