Pollster, Ben Ephson has cautioned that if the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) fails to restore cordial relations with its incumbent Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korle constituency, a likely independent candidacy of the later may dwindle the fortunes of the Party on December 7th.
As part of his ongoing analysis of the forthcoming elections dubbed, “Count Down to election 2016” airing on GH One television, The Daily Dispatch Managing Editor told viewers that of that Nii Armah Ashietey contesting as an independent candidate should not be ignored by the executives of the NDC if they want to retain the seat.
Mr. Ephson explained that the Klottey Korle seat is a swing seat that could be won by any of the two main leading political parties and that it is eminent on the ruling party to restore cordial relations with their incumbent MP to safeguard their chances of retaining the seat in this years elections.
However, Kester Aburam Korankye, aide to the Klottey Korle MP confirmed that Nii Armah Ashietey is contesting this year’s election as an independent candidate. He said preparations are already under way for Nii Armah Ashietey to pick up nomination forms. “Hon is still shocked by how the party has treated him because he has been with the party since its inception, however he has the interest of the people at heart and will always abide by the decisions of the people he represent” he added that Nii Armah Ashietey has the intentions of contesting the elections solely because of the call on him by many of his supporters and party executives in the constituency.
Mr. Aburam Korankye explained, “Most of the constituency executives are already having problems with the NDC’s candidate for the constituency and are calling on Nii Armah Ashietey to contest because they believe he is the only one who can retain their interest and that is retaining the seat. Most of them complain that Zanetor Rawligns is likely to loose the seat to the opposition because she does not have cordial relationship with most of the executives who were with her during the primaries and has failed to organize the party in the constituency ahead of the elections”. He added.
