Poultry Farmers In Tema, Prampram Threaten To Fold Up Over Growing Cost Of Business

Some Poultry farmers and Investors in Tema and Pramrpam are threatening to fold up their businesses over the high cost of doing business.

The farmers say, the cost of running a farm has quadrupled in the last few days, making them run at a loss.

They pointed to the high cost of poultry feed, cost of poultry birds, cost of water and electricity among other challenges as factors crippling their businesses.

Chairman of the Tema and Prampram Poultry farmers Association, Joseph Armah Quaye, said the poultry industry is on the verge of collapse due some many challenging factors which has been left unattended to successive government.

He said most of their members have begun laying of workers, whereas their produce have reduced drastically in the past few months.

He wants the Agric ministry to as a matter of urgency, come to their aid with pragmatic measures and realistic support that will go a long way to ensure the cost of production materials are subsidized on the Ghanaian market.

Samuel Agyemanku an investor in the poultry business who complained bitterly to newsmen said, his investment of over 150,000ghc has gone down the drain, without realising any profit. He called on government to do more to protect local poultry farmers, so as to make the sector attractive to the Ghanaian youths and Investors.
