MANY JOIN THE NEW PPP AS NDUOM ENCOURAGES NORTHERN REGION AND UPPER EAST RESIDENTS TO SPREAD THE PARTY’S MESSAGE
Following the successful maiden National Convention of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) leading members have spread out into the country in a membership drive meant to boost the popularity of the new party and increase its chances in the 2012 elections.
Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom the Presidential Aspirant of the PPP has paid a visit to the Northern Region and the Upper East regions to “spread the good word and win more believers”. Along the way from Accra, Dr. Nduom met party executives in Cape Coast, KEEA, Assin South, Obuasi and Kintampo to educate them on the process for registering new members and selecting parliamentary candidates.
In the Northern Region, Dr. Nduom met the executives of the PPP to review plans for a sustained membership drive. He also met with potential parliamentary candidates and local business people who plan to support the activities of the party. An enthusiastic crowd met Dr. Nduom in the town of Tampion, Nanton constituency. The great reception given Dr. Nduom and PPP executives is recognition of the fact that he has visited this town several times in the past six years. The people of Tampion are aware of the role Dr. Nduom played in bringing about the Millennium Challenge Account grant which some of them have benefitted from. Prior to the conclusion of the MCA compact, Dr. Nduom visited the area Tamale-Nanton-Savelugu area to interact with people particularly over the potential for mango cultivation and social investment in water to deal with the guinea worm menace.
Dr. Nduom told them that with all humility, the PPP wants to be given the opportunity to prove what this new party can do to bring peace and prosperity to all Ghanaians. He introduced the PPP parliamentary aspirant for the Nanton constituency Alhassan Shitobu to the people and urged them to support him to go to parliament to advance the progressive agenda for their benefit.
In Bawku, the PPP Presidential aspirant was thrilled by the overwhelming welcome given to him by residents in the municipality. An overflow crowd met him and listened to him explain PPP’s free, compulsory and continuous education policy and its intent to rid Ghana of malaria. Dr. Nduom pledged PPP’s commitment to peace and unity in the Bawku area and promised to prevent the party’s youth from engaging in acts that would divide ethnic groups in the area. The team that accompanied Dr. Nduom could not handle the demand for membership registration and had to leave the task to a local team to continue.
According to the team that accompanied Dr. Nduom, if Ghanaians everywhere listen to good message of the PPP and join the party the way people in the Northern and Upper East regions did on this trip, election 2012 will see the PPP in power come January 2013.
