The Reverend Mrs Patricia Addy, a member of the Ecumenical Social Relations (ESR) of the Ga Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), has called on Christians to promote good neighbourliness in their society.
Rev. Mrs. Addy said theologically, good neighbourliness was as important as Christians’ relationship with God and therefore must be acknowledged that God had a particular interest in how people related with one another as neighbours.
She said neighbourliness was an important tool for building peaceful society, ensure the security of the community, and contribute to development; a mandate, she regretted had been neglected over the years.
Rev. Mrs Addy said this during a symposium on Christian Social Life and National Interest, organized by the ESR at the Greenwich Meridian PCG in Tema Community one.
She explained that neighbours were all persons who were directly affected by one’s action and therefore advised that all should reasonably think of their neighbours, take precaution to refrain from causing harm in the community.
Mrs Addy said there were people who might either have things in common or not yet in common, however, it was demanded on everyone to be a good neighbour by living peacefully with one another and taking interest in each other’s welfare.
She said creating a neighbourhood begins with warm similes and taking ownership of the neighbourhood they lived in, they should start by getting to know each other, practicing a little thoughtfulness, patience, and building lasting friendship.
Rev Mrs Addy indicated that it was about time Christians made a conscious move beyond forming mere acquaintance with their neighbours, and get to know them better, so that in case of any incidence they could call on them without any difficulty.
