President John Dramani Mahama has denied a publication carried in the Thursday, April 11, 2013 edition of the Searchlight Newspaper that reported that the President slighted the national Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharabutu by refusing to respond to a letter from his office for almost a year.
Rubbishing the publication in an interview with The Al-Hajj, an aide to President Mahama, Alhaji Babalami Abu Sadat noted that, the President cannot snub the Chief ?Iman, especially considering the relationship that exists between Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharabutu and President Mahama?s father.
Whiles describing the publication as untrue and a blatant attempt to sow a seed of discord between President Mahama and the Chief Imam, Alhaji Babalami explained that, on Friday, April 5, 2013, the Chief Imam gave a letter to the Vice President Amissah-Arthur to be delivered to the President whiles the President was away on an official trip to Nigeria.
According to Babalami, President Mahama returned from Nigeria on Sunday, and on the evening of that same day, the Vice President also left Accra to Turkey, adding the Veep could not deliver the letter to the president before emplaning for Turkey.
He added that, considering the importance the vice president attached to the chief Imam?s office, he could not send the letter through anybody to be given to the President.
?The two of them were not in the country, so how is the President going to respond to the letter?? Alhaji Babalami queried, stressing that even if President Mahama had received the letter, he would have taken some time to study it before responding to it.
He bellowed that, any attempt to cause disaffection among the two great gentlemen would be disastrous to the entire Muslim community.
?Whatever you do about these two gentlemen must be done in such a way to bring peace and unity. Confusion between the two would not affect them, rather the entire Muslim community,? he maintained.
The President?s aide cautioned associates and handlers of the national Chief? Iman not to sow seeds of confusion and disunity between President ?Mahama and Sheikh ?Dr Osman Nuhu Sharabutu.
Touching on the ongoing Hajj conference in Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Babalami discounted claims that the President did not inform the Chief Imam about it.
He explained that, President Mahama ordered the acting Head of Hajj Affairs, Alhaji Tanko Ibrahim Rauf, to officially inform the Chief Imam about the conference in Saudi Arabi last week.
A source close to Alhaji Tanko Ibrahim Rauf, has since confirmed to The Al-Hajj that the acting Hajj head did indeed notified and received the blessings of the National Chief Imam before attending the Hajj Conference last week.
