President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo affirmed the success of his government’s job creation efforts, citing initiatives like the Ghana Jobs and Skills Project and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), which have collectively provided employment opportunities for over 700,000 young Ghanaians since 2017.
Addressing the 12th Quadrennial Delegates Congress of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) on August 20, 2024, at the Pentecost Convention Centre, President Akufo-Addo praised the TUC’s contributions to fostering industrial peace and harmony within Ghana’s labour sector. He noted the significance of the event in reflecting on these achievements.
The President emphasized the government’s collaborative efforts with Organized Labour over the past seven years to resolve industrial disputes amicably. This approach, he said, has contributed to a stable environment conducive to economic growth and job creation.
“In my address, I highlighted my government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of workers and pensioners across the nation,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
“Notably, we have substantially improved the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) scheme, including a 25% increase in pensions in 2023—the highest since introducing the contributory Three-Tier Pension Scheme. This demonstrates our dedication to ensuring that our senior citizens are well supported in retirement.”
The President also underscored the growth of pension assets, which have surged by over 350%, from GH¢15.7 billion in 2016 to GH¢71.69 billion in 2024. He highlighted this increase as evidence of the government’s commitment to securing the future of all Ghanaians.
Following the event, President Akufo-Addo shared his reflections on social media, reaffirming the administration’s focus on improving job opportunities and pension benefits as part of its broader economic and social policies.
