President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to ensuring a peaceful electoral process and power transfer in Ghana’s upcoming 2024 general elections during the Ghana Report Summit held in Accra.
This reiteration of commitment provides a sense of security and reassurance to the public.
Addressing attendees under the theme “Dealing with Misinformation and Disinformation – Election 2024,” President Akufo-Addo stressed the critical role of a peaceful process in upholding Ghana’s democratic reputation, which he described as exemplary for Africa and the world.
President Akufo-Addo highlighted Ghana’s history of political transitions between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), emphasizing the maturity of Ghana’s democratic institutions and the resilience of its electoral process.
He called for vigilance among the media and citizens alike to combat misinformation and disinformation, acknowledging their potential to undermine democratic gains. This call to action empowers every individual to play a part in ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.
In response, he announced the government’s forthcoming national action plan, which is currently under consideration by the cabinet.
Meanwhile, National Security Minister Albert Kan-Dapaah urged the media to uphold professionalism and caution in their reporting, emphasizing factual accuracy, balanced reporting, and objective analysis devoid of agendas that could destabilize the nation.
