President appoints new chief of the Army

President John Dramani Mahama has, in consultation with the Council of State, appointed Major General Obed Boamah Akwa as Chief of Army Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.

His appointment takes immediate effect.

A statement signed by Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister of Communications and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said Major General Obed Boamah Akwa was, until his appointment, the Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.
The President has, on the recommendations of the Ghana Armed Forces Council, also approved the promotion of the following officers; Brigadier General W. A. Ayamdo to the rank of Major General, Brigadier General S. K. Adeti to the rank of Major General, Commodore S. Amoama to Rear Admiral and Air Commodore G. S. Evans to Air Vice Marshal.

President Mahama has also endorsed the following appointments in the Ghana Armed Forces; Major General W. A. Ayamdo, as Commandant of the Military Academy and Training School, Air Vice Marshal G. S. Evans as Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre and Rear Admiral S. Amoama as the Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College.

The statement said President Mahama, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, has appointed Brigadier General S. B. Alloh to be in charge of the Northern Command, Brigadier General C. B. Alhassan for Central Command and Brigadier General F. Ofori as Commander, Special Services Brigade.
