Ranking Member of Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs commends President Mahama?s efforts to eradicate Ebola in the West African sub region.

The Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Isaac Osei has commended President Mahama?s efforts aimed at eradicating the deadly Ebola.

Ghana is leading an international crusade to help fight the disease which has plagued almost 10,000 people globally, killing over 4,000 with majority of the deaths occurring in the West African sub region.
The Ebola viral disease is a disease of humans and other primates caused by Ebola viruses. Signs and symptoms typically start between two days and three weeks after contracting the virus, with a fever, sore throat, muscle pain and headaches. Death, if it occurs, is usually between six to sixteen days after symptoms appear and is often due to low blood pressure from fluid loss.[2]

The virus is acquired by contact with blood or other body fluids of an infected human or bush animals.
This led to President Mahama opening the doors of the country for a UN logistics hub to be set up in Accra to open a vital corridor to the worst affected nations of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea who were isolated by the international community.

Ambassador Osei believes this is a laudable idea by the President and called on him to do more to completely eradicate the disease from the West African sub region and the world as whole.

?Already you know that Ghana has been selected as a center for the fight against Ebola as a result of the intervention of the United Nation Secretary General. So Ghana is playing a role, but we have to it continuously until this very serious outbreak of Ebola is completely eliminated from our region.?

Speaking to Live News, the Member of Parliament for Subin urged President Mahama to use his position as ECOWAS Chair to inure to the benefit of the country.

?I think that it is possible for the president to leverage Ghana?s position as ECOWAS chair to the advantage of our country especially in the fight against Ebola. Ghana can show leadership by bringing community wise effort to ensure that this matter is resolved as soon as possible.?
