President Ruto of Kenya has clarified that there is no current airport deal with Adani Group, despite the conglomerate’s proposal to lease the airport for 30 years at US$2.5 billion.

Adani Group, one of India’s largest and most influential conglomerates, has been accused of fraud and insider trading, allegations that could potentially impact their credibility and financial stability. The group, however, denies these accusations.

Ruto emphasized that the airport would not be sold, asserting that the government would seek investors for its upgrade through a transparent public-private partnership, a process that will be conducted with the utmost integrity. He urged Kenyans to disregard misinformation, stressing the need for a new airport infrastructure beyond the current state, which he described as inadequate.

The Kenya Airports Authority has acknowledged Adani Group’s investment proposal but has yet to respond to calls for a statement from Senator Richard Onyonka.

President Ruto, facing significant pressure following six weeks of youth-led protests, recently announced cabinet changes to form a more inclusive government. In a Sunday address, he reiterated his call for national unity, inspiring Kenyans to stand together amid ongoing challenges.
