The National Dean of Presiding Members, Mr Joseph Korto, has sent a message of condolence to Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on behalf of all Presiding Members following his bereavement on Monday, 13th of September.

In a heartfelt message to Dr. Bawumia on Wednesday and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Mr Korto, who is also the Dean of the Presiding Members in Greater Accra region, conveyed the deepest commiseration of all PMs across the country.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you Sir as you prepare to give up your dear mother, who is also the dear mother of all Ghanaians now by virtue of your leadership, to the ages today,” Mr Korto wrote.

He added, “please have our deepest condolences and may Hajia Mariama be received by Allah into a peaceful eternal rest.”

On Monday, Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, lost his mother, Hajia Mariama Bawumia whom Dr. Bawumia affectionately called Maame.

The 82- year- old octogenarian died just two days to her 82nd birthday. She had been sick for some time and in hospital.

On Monday, Dr. Bawumia announced the passing of Maame himself. “It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Hajia Mariama Bawumia.”

“Hajia Mariama passed away peacefully Monday morning in Accra.

A native of Kpasenkpe, Hajia Bawumia was one of the first northern female students to have gained admission into the Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast, in the Central Region.

Mr Korto, who is also the Presiding Member for the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, wrote that all Presiding Members and indeed Assembly Members across the country would be in mourning together with the Vice President as he buried his mother on Tuesday.

“We are in sack cloth and ashes with you Sir as we join in mourning. We pray that the earth will rest gently on her sweet soul even as God grants her eternal rest.”
