The Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) was acknowledged as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11th, 2020 mostly due to the speed and scale of the transmission of the disease across the global village.

Before this time, it started as a fast spreading disease in mainland China with the first case being reported in the city of Wuhan, in the Hubei region. Since the Wuhan incident, the Corona-virus has reportedly spread to almost every nooks and crannies with medical doctors, health practitioners and leading pharmaceutical giants devising all sorts of strategies and methodologies to find real solution in trying to stop the spread of what is fast becoming a global scourge.

In the meantime, indications of human to human transmission became vivid on January 22nd, 2020 after a visit conducted by a WHO delegation to the city of Wuhan in China. Since the first outbreak recognized in February 2020, the disease has spread rapidly around the world.

Given the viral nature of COVID-19 and resurgent of the ‘Third Wave’ of the disease in Liberia as announced by the Ministry of Health on June17, 2021, this column (Entertainment, Culture And Tourism) is making a passionate appeal to all owners of night clubs, bars, hotels, tourist destinations as well as restaurant and other public entertainment centers to please adhere to the Ministry of Health protocols, measures and guidelines.

The entertainment, culture and tourism galleries should go all out to inform their customers to please wear face mask and wash their hands at all times before entering their business centers.

We at the New Liberia newspaper Entertainment, Culture and Tourism column is also calling on all marketers, street vendors and buyers to abide by the health protocols which include social distancing practices of three feet at all time.

We must admit that there is a dire need for all to respect, obey and stand by the safety measures and protocols proclaimed by GOL.

Accordingly, we are calling on the public to please wear the face mask properly by making sure they cover their mouth and nose and not to put the mask under their chain. Let us all keep the procedures of the Ministry of Health as good citizens of the Republic of Liberia.

COVID-19 can be transmitted from human to human by respiratory droplets, close contact with diseased patients, and possibly by facial-oral and bouquet contact. It was recently shown that airborne transmission is highly infectious and represents the leading route to spread the disease.

Infected individuals (80%) are asymptomatic or present mild signs most likely due to a good safe response able to control the advance of the disease. On the other hand, suggestive individuals may change to more severe signs and eventual death.

The best way to prevent transmission and illness is to avoid being exposed to the virus. Therefore, some recommendations include washing of hands often, avoid close contact, cover mouth and nose with a mask, cover coughs and sneezes, and clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily.

In this regard, wearing of face masks in public is regarded as the most effective means to prevent inter-human transmission. The novel human coronavirus disease COVID-19 has become the fifth documented pandemic since the 1918 flu pandemic, according to medical history.
Some Preventive Measures To Avoid Spread Of The Virus

The virus spread mainly from person-to-person between people who are in close contact with one another and through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person cough, sneezes or talk. The best way to prevent it is to avoid being exposed to the virus.
