Apparently believing that the streets and hotels of Kumasi would be paved with government officials who would come across the country, a horde of prostitutes have descended on the city.
According to snippet of information gathered by the Daily Express in Ashanti capital Kumasi, indicates that the ladies ranging between the ages of 22-35 have stated booking hotels, lounges and guest houses around the Kumasi sports stadium in order to welcome their visitors.
For validity they would pose as staff of transnational corporations supposedly visiting Kumasi on official business.
One of the ladies who spoke on conditions of anonymity confirmed to this reporter: ?We have rooms in many top hotels and guest houses which we are going to use in accommodating our clients. I came far away Takoradi and I am staying till Monday when almost the gurus had left ….? Flashing her bracelets at this reporter.
She disclose hotels such as Crystal Rose Hotel, Cafe? Masarati, 5star Golden Tulip, the Stadium Hotel Kumasi Wesley guesthouse, Hotel New Orleans, and Ceeta Kel as places of convenient closer to the Kumasi Stadium to transit their business.
?We are here to also prey on politicians and high profile delegates who would visit here? she boasts.
An unsuspecting delegate who had being in Kumasi since Tuesday narrating his ordeal said he was harassed incessantly by these ladies, after exchanging numbers with her.
He said a few hours later she started harassing me with calls. She was calling me at 30-minute intervals, wanting to know where I was and if I was available to get together with her. At some point I felt there was something going on. I made inquiries and was told the lady was a prostitute who had arrive in town to squeeze politicians,? he said.
An official from the electoral commission told this reporter that he met two young ladies at Kiravi Night Club located at Ahodjo and they suggested we go to the club downstairs. At the club I noticed that they were quite popular and this made me suspicious. I said to one of them, ?how come you are so popular here and you neither reside in Kumasi nor are you a resident here?.
Speaking to Daily Express, an opinion leader confirmed this development in the capital. ?I can confirm that there are many new female faces here since Sunday which is usually? he exclaim.
They prey on politicians and high profile individuals. I have encountered them,? he claimed.
On the flip side of life the deadly HIV scourge still lurks around and much worse, there are no readily authentic and verifiable statistics of the immediate trend, which then paints a most horrific picture of what could play out as a result of these nocturnal endeavors in the hell to come.
The Daily Express found that about 95 percent of the hotels and guest houses have already being booked by party functionaries, delegates and observers ahead of the extraordinary congress which is set to outdoor President John Mahama as the party flag-bearer and launching of the national campaign for 2012.
President Mahama, assumed the leadership of the NDC following the death of President John Evans Ata Mills, is the sole candidate for the Kumasi congress.
The party’s Regional Office at Asafo and the Regional Coordinating Council has become a beehive of activities as party paraphernalia were on display in and across the city.
However a statement signed by the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, in Kumasi said the event would start at about mid-day just after the confirmation of the party’s flag-bearer at the extraordinary national delegates’ congress at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Meanwhile, all is set for the congress with roads leading to the grounds adorned with the NDC’s black, green, red and white colours and portraits of President Mahama.
