In collaboration with Blue Ocean LPG Bottling Plant, Puma Energy Ghana has launched a significant initiative to distribute more than 15,000 filled liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders across 11 regions of Ghana by December 2024.

This effort is part of the government’s clean cooking initiative to reduce reliance on traditional fuels and promote environmental sustainability.

The partnership is a response to the urgent issue of clean cooking in Ghana, where a significant portion of the population still relies on wood, charcoal, and kerosene for cooking.

This reliance contributes to air pollution, deforestation, and health issues such as childhood pneumonia and asthma. By transitioning households to LPG, Puma Energy and Blue Ocean seek to improve health outcomes and mitigate environmental degradation.

The distribution process will leverage over 60 Puma Energy retail outlets and 40 community exchange centres as distribution points. These facilities will serve both rural and urban communities, ensuring accessibility to clean cooking alternatives. Already, cylinders have been deployed to key locations such as Nmai Dzorn, Adentan, and Kissehman, with further distribution planned nationwide.

Zwelithini Mlotshwa, General Manager of Puma Energy Ghana, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership in advancing the clean cooking agenda. He reaffirmed Puma Energy’s unwavering commitment to improving community well-being by reducing reliance on harmful traditional fuels.

Michael S. Kyeremanteng, Operations Manager at Blue Ocean LPG Bottling Plant, underscored the safety and efficiency of their state-of-the-art bottling facility.

This facility, which adheres to the highest safety standards, plays a crucial role in supporting the National Petroleum Authority’s Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) project, ensuring that the LPG cylinders distributed are of the highest quality and safety standards.

In addition to local efforts, Puma Energy has aligned its initiatives with global commitments by joining the Clean Cooking Declaration at the International Energy Agency (IEA) Summit on Clean Cooking in Africa. This declaration underscores Puma Energy’s dedication to advancing clean cooking solutions and fostering collaboration across sectors.

Through these combined efforts, Puma Energy and Blue Ocean, along with the support of Ghanaians, are poised to significantly impact Ghana’s energy landscape, promoting healthier cooking alternatives and sustainable environmental practices nationwide.
