Mr Eric Opoku, out-going Ashanti Regional Minister, has urged the people of the Region to put Ghana ahead of individuak convinience.
They should also be patriotic and accept to fly high the flag of Ghana.
The regional Minister was addressing a colourful parade of the security services, school children and voluntary organizations marked the 57th anniversary celebration of nationhood at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi.
He said it was important for all to do a sober reflection on what they could do to propel the country?s development agenda.
They should hold the line and remain firm in their determination to work together, and uphold discipline and tolerance to make things happen, he added
?We should take this opportunity to re-evaluate how we are treating the nation our fore-bearers fought for, of which we are beneficiaries and what we can do to move the nation forward.?
The Regional Minister pledged the government?s resolve to tackle the growing phenomenon of youth unemployment, environmental degradation and other challenges.
It would, however, require the total support, understanding and cooperation of all to achieve the desired results, he emphasised.
In attendance were over 1,500 officers and men drawn from the military, police, immigration, prisons, customs excise and preventive service (CEPS) and about 2,500 students from basic and senior high schools (SHS).
Prizes were presented to contingents that excelled in the march pass. GNA
